Note: This performance is unique in that you will witness it live twice, in two different locations in the ATLAS building, the Black Box Theatre and the Film Screening Room. The opportunity to experience the performance in both 2 and 3 dimensions ensures that you view what is happening on stage from many different perspectives. Those of you first to arrive will choose which location you view the performance first. At intermission, everyone will be invited to switch locations.

Explanation:
(If you get bored, just skip down to numbers 6 and 7)
1) What is a Toeplitz Matrix? - A matrix is a table consisting of numbers or more generally any abstract quantities that can be added, multiplied and decomposed in various ways. Among other things, matrices are used to record data that depend on multiple parameters. A Toeplitz matrix, named after Otto Toeplitz, a forward thinking German born mathematician, is unique in that each descending diagonal from left to right is constant. In addition to the matrix that bears his name, in the 1930’s Otto Toeplitz developed a general theory of infinite dimensional spaces. Infinite dimensional spaces? Please take a moment to think about what that means to you.
2) Think a little more. This thought hurts my head. Would appreciate some good answers.
3) What is a TOE? - To the Toeplitz Matrix, we add TOE, or Theory of Everything, kept alive in part by Einstein’s quest for a unified field theory combining gravity with electromagnetism. Philosophers from as far back as ancient Greece assumed that within nature, with it’s seemingly endless array of physical phenomena, there is a theory that fully explains and unifies all those phenomena.
4) Who are we? - Add us, the collaborators for TOEplitz, to 1) and 2). We dancers, flyers, number thinkers, operatic voices, sound makers, technical masters, computer communicators, among others, manipulate the dimensions of space and time in various ways. We understand, interpret, and interact with our shared world in different ways, and so as a group, we create a unique matrix of variables. In a very literal sense, we are exploring how to unify our varying ways of expressing ourselves into a collective experience that also serves to entertain a diverse audience. Instead of exploring this through methods of communication all too common—text messages, emails, IM’s, myspace and facebook—we come to you with a intimate collaboration between a group of friends that aims to bring some humanity to our digital world.
5) The result is TOEplitz: Our variable matrix of TOE’s. The matrices we create transform the ATLAS Blackbox into a unique experiment in space and time. You will be a witness NOT to simply beautiful dancing bodies, intricate rhythms, operatic voices, and engaging video being manipulated live, but rather the interaction of all of the above. You will witness TOEplitz in 2 dimensions (a live projection of the performance in the film screening room above the Blackbox) and 3 dimensions (live in the Blackbox performance space) while other audiences around the world will be witnessing this performance via live streaming video at www.meetmytoe.com.
6) Wondering how it all comes together? Seem a little vague? This performance is meant to be experienced, not read about. Come to our showings and keep checking our website for updates.
7) Informal showings December 12th at 4:30pm and sometime mid January. Our final showings will be February 6th and 7th at 7:30pm and February 8th at 2pm. Meet you there.
